Our First Lady gets it from her mama

Yes, more Obama swag

Behind [most] strong women, there is a strong[er] mother. I say most because not all mother's are deserving of the mommy title (meaning some should have been on higher doses of birth control pills). But from what I know about her, Michelle Obama gets her brains, beauty and everything in between from her mama, Ms. Marian Robinson. Together they grace the cover of Essence, May issue. Check out what the article is about. Raising smart & confident kids, strong marriages and future plans. All things the younger generation [me & my cohorts] need to be begging for advice on & the amount of knowledge between these two women has to be phenomenal. Yet another mag i'll be purchasing.

Michelle Obama is so REAL

She spoke at an all girls school and you see they lost their minds. It's nice to know you don't necessarily have to be Lil Wayne or Beyonce to get mobbed. She spoke to these young ladies minds and souls and told them that they are more precious than words can describe. Her own words moved her to tears...and me too. I'm such a cry baby.
I've made an oath to myself that I will meet this woman sometime within the next eight years. She's such a phenomenal, educated, graceful, genuine, articulate, strong black woman. Y'all already know how I feel about First Lady O ;-)

The 2 most powerful women in the world

Gotta love and respect it. The FIRST (and probably the last) time Oprah shared the cover with someone besides herself (remember the split cover with her as a skinny minnie and her now, a little um... fluffier) This magazine cover is the best. I love it. And it will mark the 1st time I buy one of O's mags. Not sayin nuthin bad about the magazine. It's just expensive as hell! I'm jus sayin tho...
Anyway, don't you love how sista girl friendly they look all while maintaining an air of class and intelligence about them? I know their convos be on point. I want in.

People seriously need to get a life

I don't give two hells what anyone has to say about Mrs. Obama going sleeveless too much, she looks AMAZING in this pic.

I love the pink, love the lacy detail. It's sexy! Now when was the last time there was anything sexy in the White House? President Clinton's sideline h0 does NOT count. Michelle looks good. So the people yip yappin about her always showing her arms, always wearing fitted clothes, always being overly accessorized- it's called FASHION people!. Get a sense of it and move on. If I had arms like hers, i would never cover them up either. Real talk.

Oh and the designer of this cute lil number is Tracy Reese, a black designer out of Chicago. Love it.

How much do we love 1st Lady Michelle for this??

Yesterday, Michelle Obama opened up her White House to approximately 200 local students and educators for a special program honoring Black History. She began the program with a question and answer portion where she tested the students knowledge of Black History. But true to her keep-it-real nature, Mrs. Obama did not stick with the traditional line of questioning: "Who was Dr. Martin Luther King?" "What did Rosa Parks do?" Etc. She branched way out there and asked the middle schoolers whether or not they knew that the White House was built, piece by piece, by black slaves. She was pleasantly shocked that many hands went up, heads nodding that yes they did know. (I would've been shocked too cuz my piece of crap history book never mentioned it. lol) She then urged the kids to look beyond the famous names they hear repeatedly, and to research black men and women who contributed to this nation in great ways, but rarely get recognized for it. She told them not to be afraid to dig all up in their own family roots because it's important to know the stock from which we come from. Then, as a treat for the students, a Grammy award winning acapella ensemble of African American women, Sweet Honey in The Rock, filled the room with traditional hymns and upbeat spirituals.

This is why I luv Michelle. Well, one of the reasons why.

Sasha was like ummm...excuse you. Can you back up outta my face?!

I want a hug too!

:-)

And on a sad side note because he doesn't deserve an entire post to himself, the token black republican chairman, Michale Steele, is two inches away from getting on my last damn nerve.
Yesterday he announced that the GOP needs an "off the chain hip-hop makeover to attract young minority voters."

Mr. Steele, how helpful are you really trying to be here? Correct me if i'm wrong, but President Obama's campaign attracted young people in places we didn't even know youngins existed, and he never turned his platform into the Source Awards. Your attempts at blackness "coolness" fall so short, it's really not even funny. Off the chain? Seriously. Sit down. Thanks.

My 3 Cents on 1st Lady Michelle's Dress

The magical day/night is over, but the sheen of it all is still very much felt in the air. After the inauguration of President Barack Obama, things just feel different. Yesterday's events were mesemrizing and I made it clear that one of my main points of interest was what Mrs. Obama was going to wear to the 100's of balls that her and President Obama had to attend. My "suggestions" ranged from something black and racy to regal and elegant in royal purple. I did mention that Mrs. Michelle loves her vivid colors (as seen in her flashy gold coat and dress set she wore at the swearing in) but that she might choose to go neutral for her ball gown. And she did.

I will admit to not loving the dress when I first caught a glimpse of it on Yahoo homepage. It wasn't exactly what I had in mind, and white would have been one of my last choices in color. BUT when I got home and actually watched her and Barack in each other's arms at the Youth Ball, she did look stunning. I loved the flowy skirt of the dress and the crystal jewel accents sparkled like crazy, creating an angelic effect that was perfect for the occasion. A little disappointed that she didn't wear her hair swept up, but all in all, our First Lady was well put together as usual.

And let's not forget Dr. Jill Biden

So much talk swirls around about Michelle's fashions (rightfully so) but, i'm feelin Dr. Biden as the lady in red. And I just really really like her. Very down to earth yet she obviously has her ish together (hello she is DOCTOR Biden), and the fact that she's so dedicated and coommitted to still teaching...she's just really cool.

Michelle Obama's Inaugural gown....

I don't know about anyone else but I am more excited about seeing what First Lady Michelle is gonna step out in on Jan. 20th than anything else. I kow she's gonna be stunning and I can't wait. Many high-fashion designers are breaking their necks trying to be "the one" chosen to doll Mrs.Obama up for the historical day. I say forget all of em and let Michelle pick her own outfit from head to toe without any help from anyone....except me :-) My imagination is running wild and here are a few looks that I think she could work the hell out of:

1st and foremost, I want her to stay far far away from metallics. Gold, silver and bronze have been played out over the past few years and I don't wish to see any more sequined shimmery dresses (think anything Beyonce wears on the red carpet. Love you Bey!) So just say no to gold, Mrs. Obama. Thanks.

But now purple...

Yessss. The color looks amazing on her and it has become one of her signature shades. The fabric would radiate under all the camera lights and with a really classy up do, like this one... and a single strand tear drop diamond necklace with matching earrings, she would be gorgeous.

BUT, since she has done purple a few times, maybe she'll want to change it up a little.

Now maybe it's just me, but i'd love to see her in a pink evening gown. Really light pastel pink such as the one above could be a unique choice. Throw these shoes in for good measure...(i love these damn shoes!!!)

OR something a little more glam like this Roberto Cavalli below...
The color would look beautiful against her brown sugar skin and the train is princessy without being too over the top.

Even though she loves her colors I'm thinking Michelle might throw us for a loop and opt for basic black. If she does go black though, I want her to go as UN basic as possible.
America is not ready for the sheer illusion halter neck:-) Michelle could pull it off though with lots of class (and with either pair of these heels).

Or she may choose something relatively simple and elegant

OR

The burgundy/reddish tone is very classic and regal. Michelle's figure would be vicious in that second mermaid style burgundy dress (those hips!) and she has a very graceful neck that would be accentuated by the off the shoulder cut. I'm not fond of gold jewelry but red gowns call for multiple thin gold bangles and a detailed gold necklace. Thin strand pearls would work too.

Although blue is not my first pick in evening gown wear, I wouldn't be mad at something royal and icy like this...

Very feminine and flowy. Love it. And you know Barack has about 50 blue ties to match. This color calls for ice so Ms. Michelle could feel free to bling it out with sexy diamonds.

After the actual inauguration, i'm sure she'll change outfits and if she wants to try something shorter and flirty, a few of these party dresses match her sophisticated but hip style:

OKAY! So my pipe dream of dressing First Lady Obama may not ever come true but i'm sure she is on top of things and will blow every other First Lady so far out of the water they'll be like Jackie who???
